I propose adding the Metallica logo to the bottom of the info box, just as it appears on Nirvana's and Megadeath's page. The band's logo is a crucial part of its identity and is arguably more recognizable than its members or even its music. While I acknowledge that a version of the logo already appears in the article body, it represents the 1980s design. The current version, introduced in 2008, differs slightly and is the one prominently featured on Metallica's official website and marketing materials. Since logos are commonly used in info boxes for sports teams, organizations, and brands to enhance recognition, it would make sense to apply the same standard to bands—especially those with widely recognized logos. I would be more convinced if there was a reliable source talking about the changes to the logo, possibly something like this. But even in that case, the different logos should be stacked on top of each other so that the reader can readily see the changes. The logo is already shown by itself, and embedded on the Big 4 poster image, and worked into the Guitar Hero image, so it's not like we are lacking it. Well a bot account now removed the Big 4 poster image and Guitar Hero image. I think that the current version of the logo should be in the info box like how Nirvana and Megadeath have their respective logos in the info box on their page. Maybe we remove the 1980s version that is in the article body? And add the current logo into the info box, since they are so similar to begin with I feel that would get across the brand identity of Metallica. What do you think about that? Comment: Just prior to this discussion, I opened a question at the Help desk under "Band logos in infoboxes", and there seems to be no consensus or MOS guideline that governs whether or not band logos should be in infoboxes or not. I suggest we can a. throw the new logo image in the History section with the caption "In 2008, Metallica revised their logo to a newer design." with an appropriate citation, or b. omit it from the infobox and keep the status quo. I will wait for further discussion to get further involved, though. —Sparkle and Fade (talk • contributions) 00:52, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
